About Schierke

Schierke is a cozy little mountain town situated at the foot of the Brocken and Wernigerode between Braunlage at an altitude 580-640 meters.

From here you have the option of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz to climb on foot, by Kremser (horse) or the Brocken train. The original nature of the Upper Harz National Park with bizarre rocks, deep gorges and diverse flora and fauna you can see from here.

In addition to these unforgettable experiences of nature Schierke offers for winter sports enthusiasts an extensive network of trails, a toboggan run and a natural ice rink. Even the physical well comes in, with its dignified Schierke Regional hospitality is not enough.

For hikers, there is the National Park Information in the house the spa, right in town on the park - not so far from the Pension Witches - situated. About the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg

As a joint project of resins and Harzer Verkehrsverband e.V. and the Harzklub e.V., the "Harzer-Hexen-Stieg on 3 October 2003, the public passed. This most spectacular of resin-crossing path of a total length of 97 kilometers from west to east.
It is conceived as consistently labeled main trail of national importance and is supported by the National Park Harz and Harz mountains.

On the basis of scenic highlights, biodiversity, culture and history along the "Harzer-Hexen-Stieg" join the hikers deep insights into the geological features and history of the cultural landscape of the Harz mountains.


Main line
Osterode - Buntenbock - Altenau - Torfhaus - Brocken - Drei-Annen-Hohne - Königshütte - Altenbrak - Bodetal.

Between Königshütte and Altenbrak 2 alternative secondary routes are shown:
a) Hasselfelde - Köhler Cabins - Altenbrak
b) Rübeland - Wendefurth - Altenbrak

Who would handle the Brocken, migrated from peat house in St. Andreasberg pass via Braunlage to Königshütte.
